ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates a solid commitment to customer service with patrons and with coworkers to create an environment that is welcoming to all.
- Develops and maintains community relationships to enhance library services to users of all ages and abilities.
- Plans, implements, and directs innovative, diverse, and collaborative programs and services for adults in conjunction with the Adult Services team.
- Responsible for the hiring, training, and supervising of all Adult Services Staff and is a key member of the Library’s leadership team.
- Sets, interprets, and upholds departmental goals and objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Works with the Collection Development Coordinator to direct collection development for adult services; guides fellow staff in selection guidelines; assists with collection maintenance and weeding.
- Provides general and in-depth reference services at the public service desk.
- Reads widely in order to provide appropriate reader’s advisory; stays attuned to popular trends in adult literature to keep the collection vibrant and locally relevant.
- Compiles statistics on attendance of all programs throughout the year, including summer reading, for the annual state report. Conducts outcome measures to gauge program impact.
- Action-oriented: takes on new opportunities, anticipates challenges, and provides proactive solutions with a sense of urgency, energy, and enthusiasm.
- Attends professional library conferences, webinars, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and contributes to library staff meetings; represents the Library at City meetings.
- Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other Library and City departments on special projects, events, and outreach efforts.
- Must possess strong technology skills, including the ability to troubleshoot basic computer and printer issues, provide help with copying/scanning/faxing, as well as using technology to create and edit virtual programs.
- Respond to legal research requests and instruct patrons in the use of legal materials.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Must be able to work nights and weekends in the Adult Services Department of the Main Library.
- Collaborates with other staff members as requested for special projects.
- When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- As the Adult Services Librarian II, the incumbent is required to have a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
- Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
- Must be eligible to obtain library certification from the State of Virginia within 90 days.

Resident Librarian
American University Library invites early career librarians to apply for its Resident Librarian Program. Participants will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Librarian (term faculty) with a two-year contract that is potentially renewable for one additional year dependent upon funding and performance. Two positions are available. - Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff of employees and volunteer workers; processes employee concerns and problems; directs work; counsels, disciplines and completes employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates work activities; organizes, prioritizes and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff; assists with complex problem situations and provides technical expertise.
- Coordinates library selection process; assists with collection development; selects materials for purchase; receives and processes materials for inclusion in the library collection; repairs or discards damaged/obsolete materials.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, rules, regulations and standards.
- Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, receipts, requests for materials, supply orders, patron records, statistical data, in-house manuals, patron guides or other documents.
- Reviews and recommends software programs to improve the efficiency of the day-to-day operations.
- Troubleshoots hardware and software at all library locations.
- Participates in hiring process for full-time and part-time library staff.
- Examines statistical data to make workflow improvements or schedule changes.
- Supervises, evaluates and trains staff through ongoing feedback and annual performance evaluations.
- Assists patrons in all aspects of public service, including locating information from print and non-print sources, teaching patrons how to use library catalog, databases, and assisting patrons with concerns about library policy.
- Supervises and evaluates operations of area of responsibility, programs, and services by making site visits and meeting with staff.
- Supervises subordinate personnel, including training, scheduling, assigning and evaluating work.
- Develops programs and services that meet the needs of the public and are aligned with best practices set forth by ALA and state educational standards and works with granting agencies to obtain funding for projects.
- Assists with the development, monitoring, and implementation of the relevant budget.
- Coordinates programs and services by working with agencies and organizations outside the library to develop programs of mutual interest, working with City departments, and ensuring that services are reaching the community.
- Acts as a mentor to staff by assisting with their professional development and morale, and providing assistance as needed.
- Provides classes, events, and programs to the community and staff.
- Serves as Library Manager in their absence.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in an ALA accredited program in Library Science or possession of Librarian's Professional Certificate from the Commonwealth of Virginia State Library Board, and 3 to 5 years of professional level public library experience in a library setting, including 1 to 2 years of administrative/supervisory responsibilities; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Job Description
Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Reynolds Libraries seeks an innovative and tech-savvy Lead Digital Services Librarian to guide our digital initiatives and elevate our online presence. The Lead Digital Services Librarian will coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure continued access to subscribed electronic resources with the overall goal of guiding the Libraries’ online presence and digital resources. Primary responsibilities of this position will be managing and troubleshooting the library’s digital resources and services including: managing and maintaining an engaging and intuitive library website for a diverse user community; researching, developing and implementing emerging technologies to enhance library services; managing the library databases; and updating electronic resource records in the integrated library system (ILS). Engaging online learners in information literacy is another important focus of this position. As a member of the library’s full-time professional faculty, these duties are an expectation of the job: reference, instruction, collection development, including selection and deselection, liaison duties, shared branch management and supervision of part-time professional librarians.
Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited school.
- Experience in managing electronic resources within a library setting.
- Experience in or aptitude for managing and maintaining websites.
- Knowledge in web accessibility standards, responsive design, information architecture, content management systems and website best practices and standards.
- Experience using integrated library systems, preferably Ex Libris Alma/Primo.
- Experience in developing and facilitating training and support for library staff and other employees on using electronic resources and new technologies.
- Experience in creating instructional videos and documentation on using electronic resources.
- Experience with creating or updating LibGuides.
- Demonstrated strong potential for leadership with college staff and the ability to guide and execute team projects.
Additional Considerations:
- Two or more years of professional library experience, preferably in an academic library setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work with database vendors to negotiate electronic resource license agreements and resolve technical issues as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to co-manage a library branch by sharing responsibility and decision-making.

Senior Librarian, Collection Services
Newport News Public Library is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Librarian for Collection Services to join our public library team and help deliver exceptional cataloging and collection support services to our community. This leadership position plays a key role in maintaining high standards for bibliographic access, collection services operations, and collection management while fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
The Senior Librarian for Collection Services is responsible for performing advanced and complex cataloging of library materials in a variety of formats. The position oversees authority control to ensure consistency and accuracy in subject, author, and title headings; collaborates with a variety of vendors and service providers; and develops, updates, and maintains departmental cataloging and processing procedures.
