Meet A Member: Jennifer Resor-Whicker

What is your VLA position?
Secretary

What do you hope to accomplish in your time as an elected member of the VLA Executive Committee?
I hope to continue the wonderful work of the VLA Secretaries that have held this position before me, and to spread my love of all things Star Wars throughout the association. :)

Where do you work?
McConnell Library, Radford University

What is your current position?
Reference/Instruction Librarian

When did you first know that you wanted to be a librarian?
While at UNCG and after I graduated with my BA, I worked for my grandfather's commercial plumbing company as an office manager. When my grandfather announced he was retiring, I knew I did not want to continue working in construction. My husband had been a librarian for about 3 years at that point and really enjoyed it. So, I decided to go to library school.

What was your first library job?
Reference Intern at UNC-Greensboro's Jackson Library

What is your favorite part of librarianship?
I love seeing that "a-ha" moment in students when they start to understand what I'm trying to teach them. I love changing the
way students view research.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on the job?
While I was working as an intern at Jackson Library, a student came up to the reference desk and asked, "Where is the library?"

If you could have anything in the universe installed in your office for your personal use, what would it be?
I would like my own R2 series astromech droid and a 3PO unit protocol droid to help me with all of my various tasks. I believe
a 3PO unit would be great to send to any meetings I don't want to attend.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to know about you?
I am a huge fan of professional wrestling.
