The Campbell County Public Library welcomed new public services librarian, EMILY CORREA, to their system on March 20. She will serve the Staunton River Memorial Library in Altavista and the Patrick Henry Memorial Library in Brookneal. In addition to helping with this year's summer reading program, "Build a Better World," Ms. Correa hosted a pop-up library at Uncle Billy’s Day, an annual festival held in Altavista on June 2-3. Ms. Correa has a Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts and Design from James Madison University and a Master’s degree in Library Sciences from the University of North Texas. Having lived in the Harrisonburg area of Virginia for most of her life, she is excited to have moved to Campbell County and to have the opportunity to learn about another part of the state.
BRIAN MANNING has been named as the new Regional Library Director for the Appomattox Regional Library System, serving the city of Hopewell, town of McKenney, Prince George County, and Dinwiddie County. Manning formerly served as Deputy Director of the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center in North Carolina, a post he held from August 2008 until coming to ARLS in July 2016. Prior to entering the library profession, the graduate of Washington & Lee University Law School was a civil law attorney. He received his MLS in 2006 at North Carolina Central University.
After a 31-year career, LYNDA BAER retired from her adult programmer position on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, which also happened to be her birthday. She also steps down after serving 4 years as president of the Friends of Chatham, a non-profit that she started in conjunction with the National Park Service to support historic Chatham Manor in Stafford County. She will continue to volunteer with Chatham and also has plans to start a Unit for Professional Parliamentarians in the Fredericksburg area. With her continued activities in the Daughters of the American Revolution and visits to see her daughter in Brooklyn, New York, Lynda will have fulfilling retirement.
As of July 1, REBECCA PURDY has been promoted to Deputy Director of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL). Rebecca began shelving books in CRRL’s children’s room while she was a sophomore in high school and returned as a teen librarian after earning her Master of Library Science. She most recently held the position of Youth Services Coordinator at CRRL. Rebecca is a member of VLA and ALA, serving on multiple committees for both organizations through the years, and she has recently been selected to attend the 2016 ALA Leadership Institute.
