Wednesday, July 27, 2022, 10:00 AM - 11:30 PM EDT
Category: Events

Tina D. Rollins, Library Director at Hampton University serves as Principle Investigator for the  IMLS funded grant entitled Leading the Charge: Advancing the Recruitment and Retention of People of Color Within the LIS Field. This 3 year project grant  helps to build the capacity of other libraries to develop and implement practices and initiatives that change, evolve, and improve the equity, diversity and inclusion of people of color (POC) working within the field. The current grant builds upon the success of  the  previous 2017 IMLS funded National Forum grant.  The Hampton University National Forum on Minority Recruitment and Retention in the LIS Field convened in 2018 to discuss concerns regarding the experiences of people of color within LIS. Through these grants, Hampton University’s William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library has become a leader in helping to open dialogue and create actionable and sustainable goals to increase diversity and address the experiences of library professionals of color. This presentation will discuss the experiences of advocating for EDI through grant initiatives. Additionally, strategies and tools to help libraries and library professionals move from performative allyship to actionable initiatives will be shared.
