POSITION: Naro Video Collection Curator (00948A) – Library Specialist III – Full-time

The Curator plans, implements, and manages all activities related to collection development, access, use, outreach, and programming for the Naro Video @ ODU Libraries collection; works with Libraries personnel across multiple departments to refine workflows and procedures, purchases films in appropriate formats, develops outreach strategies, and maintains the collection; and engages with Old Dominion University faculty and students and members of the greater Hampton Roads community on programming that connects the collection with the teaching and research objectives of the University.

Required Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of film history, genres, technical presentation standards, and media formats; considerable ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and an in writing; considerable analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; considerable knowledge of quality customer service practices; demonstrated basic ability to work with a diverse community of faculty, students, venue management, vendors, and the general public; demonstrated basic ability to work independently and as a member of a team; demonstrated basic ability and follow and interpret complex policies and procedures in the execution of detail-oriented work; demonstrated basic ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making within general guidelines/procedures; considerable interpersonal skills and ability to form and maintain productive working relationships; considerable experience with film programming (screenings, exhibits, speakers, etc.) and event planning and management for diverse audiences; considerable experience working with media materials and serving users of media materials; some experience using social media to promote film collections, events, and/or services; some experience with the selection and purchase of media materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Some experience leading and/or directing the work of others; considerable experience with the selection and purchase of media materials; considerable experience working with film distributors and film programming venues; some experience with budget management; considerable knowledge of media preservation needs and challenges; some experience creating graphics and digital video content.
