Brickell Medical Sciences Library at Eastern Virginia Medical School invites applications for the Library Technician, Technical Services position. Working closely with the Technical Services Coordinator, the Library Technician actively participates in the daily operations of the Technical Services unit, which includes the acquisition and maintenance of the library’s electronic and print resources.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain accurate URL links in OCLC WorldShare Management Services, DOCLINE, and OCLC.
  • Maintain usage statistics for print and electronic resources for annual budget assessment, journal renewals, annual national surveys, and external accreditation reports.
  • Assist in the processing of invoices.
  • Assist in print resource projects as assigned.
  • Maintains procedure manual and project calendar.
  • Aids with library projects and goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to deal with others in a direct honest manner and comply with all EVMS policies and procedure.

Position Competencies

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with supervisor and co-workers; while working cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistical analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School and two (2) years of library experience.
  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in library science or related fields.
  • Proven experience in organization skills and project coordination.
  • Experience with library organization, methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of OCLC and integrated library systems is highly desirable.

Work Schedule

  • Standard office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM as approved by supervisor.
  • Work outside of regular hours may be required to meet the demands of the position during peak times.
