Race, Sexuality, and the History of Book Censorship in VirginiaRecent years have seen highly policitized calls for book removals in school and public libraries throughout the United States. Many of these challenges were directed at books created by authors of color and LGBTQ+ writers. UVA's Keith Weimer puts today's events in their larger historical context as he looks at book removal efforts in our state over the last 70 years. Based on Weimer's recent article "From Berkeley to Beloved: Race and Sexuality in the History of Book Censorship in Virginia." Tuesday, February 27, 2024 This is an in-person session and will not be recorded.
