DATE ENTERED: February 2, 2024 Description: The Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) Board of Trustees seeks qualified candidates for the position of Library Director. The WRL Library Director will serve as Chief Executive Officer, reporting to and working in partnership with the Board of Trustees to develop, articulate, and further the library’s mission, vision, and strategic directions in a multi-jurisdictional relationship. WRL was named Virginia “Library of the Year” for 2023 and has been rated by the Library Journal as one of the best public libraries in the United States for over a decade. WRL serves the City of Williamsburg, James City County, and York County, all located in eastern Virginia’s Historic Triangle. With a strong and active community relationship, WRL is fortunate to have support from Friends of WRL Foundation. WRL highlights include: ● Two full-service library locations ● Mobile library services for homebound residents, daycares, neighborhoods, and assisted living facilities ● Outreach services with local schools ● Online services that allow access to the catalog, downloadable materials, and databases ● A wide variety of programs, events, and services for all ages ● Active participation in social media ● Services provided to and funding provided by a multi-jurisdictional arrangement ● Enthusiastic support from the Friends of WRL Foundation (FWRLF). Requirements: The ideal candidate for the Library Director must hold a Master’s degree from an ALA-Accredited Program in Library/Information Studies. The candidate must also have experience in the following: ● Working with and reporting to advisory and/or governing boards within a political environment and influencing public policy affecting libraries ● Managing and proposing budgets with a knowledgeable and strategic approach ● Working with fundraising entities to raise money for library programs and services ● Serving as a civic champion of the library and fostering support among local/regional/state government bodies, various boards, and community groups ● Collaborating with localities on the vision and design for building projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and organizations that creates a culture of inclusion; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to listen, and make public presentations with poise and professionalism; considerable knowledge of current trends in and best practices for libraries; and considerable experience leading multiple major library divisions and managing a broad range of services, programs, and staff. Experience managing a regional library system with several regional government entities is also preferred. Salary: $104,689 - $165,566 DOQ with Full Time County Benefits; to include employer contributions to The Virginia Retirement System (VRS), generous paid leave, health and life Insurance, and Deferred compensation.
