VLA/SIRS Intellectual Freedom Award Application
The Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Virginia Library Association is pleased to accept nominations for the VLA/SIRS Intellectual Freedom Award. This award recognizes the contribution of either a group or an individual who has actively promoted intellectual freedom in the Commonwealth. All types of activities and all types of groups or individuals are eligible for the award. The nominees do not have to be librarians or library employees. Anyone living in Virginia can offer a nomination. Activities during the last five years will be considered. The award to the recipient consists of a $500.00 award and a plaque to commemorate the award. Nominees are judged based on the role they have played in actively promoting intellectual freedom, the degree to which they exemplify the spirit of intellectual freedom, and the impact of their efforts to promote intellectual freedom and challenge censorship.

Attach a nomination statement regarding qualifications and supporting evidence (written, approved, and implemented policies and procedures relating to intellectual freedom, a description of programming activities which encourage and/or support intellectual freedom, documented reports of the role the nominee has played in promoting intellectual freedom, or any other relevant information that demonstrates the nominee’s role in actively promoting intellectual freedom).
