POSITION: Senior Librarian, Collection Services, Newport News Public Library Senior Librarian, Collection ServicesNewport News Public Library is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Librarian for Collection Services to join our public library team and help deliver exceptional cataloging and collection support services to our community. This leadership position plays a key role in maintaining high standards for bibliographic access, collection services operations, and collection management while fostering a positive and supportive work environment. The Senior Librarian for Collection Services is responsible for performing advanced and complex cataloging of library materials in a variety of formats. The position oversees authority control to ensure consistency and accuracy in subject, author, and title headings; collaborates with a variety of vendors and service providers; and develops, updates, and maintains departmental cataloging and processing procedures. Additional responsibilities include collection development, supervision and mentoring of staff, and assisting with facility management and daily operational needs. The successful candidate will participate in library committees and contribute to system-wide initiatives and projects. Qualified candidates should possess strong knowledge of library science principles and practices, library administration, emerging technologies, and information services. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, creative, and motivated, with excellent communication and leadership skills and a genuine commitment to public service. A positive attitude and a good sense of humor are highly valued as part of our collaborative team culture. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program; extensive experience (minimum of three years) as a professional librarian with some (minimum of one year) supervisory experience. Target hiring range is $72,000 to $87,000 based on education and experience.
