POSITION: Branch Manager, Pamunkey Regional Library, Mechanicsville, VA Pamunkey Regional Library - Branch ManagerIntroduction The Branch Manager serves as the leader of the Mechanicsville Branch of Pamunkey Regional Library, overseeing all aspects of branch operations, staff supervision, and public service delivery. This position is responsible for ensuring that the branch provides exceptional, accessible, and community-focused library services aligned with the Library’s mission and strategic priorities. Working closely with library administration and systemwide leadership, the Branch Manager fosters a culture of excellent customer service, operational efficiency, and staff development. This role ensures that the branch remains a welcoming, responsive, and innovative space that meets the evolving needs of the community. About This Role The Branch Manager is responsible for the overall management and success of the Mechanicsville Branch, including daily operations, staff leadership, community engagement, and service excellence. This position supervises branch staff, manages workflows, and ensures that all public service functions including circulation, programming, and patron engagement are delivered effectively and consistently.This role requires a strong leader who can balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational needs. The Branch Manager works collaboratively with system leadership and other branches to implement library initiatives, support organizational goals, and maintain high standards of service.The Branch Manager also serves as a key representative of the library in the community, building partnerships, responding to community needs, and promoting library services and resources.Success in this role requires strong leadership, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a positive and professional environment for both staff and patrons. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Minimum Requirements Master's Degree in Library Science degree OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience Minimum of five years of experience in a public-facing service environment (library experience preferred) At least two years of supervisory or management experience, including staff oversight and performance management. Preferences Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop staff in a public service environment. Strong commitment to delivering welcoming, responsive, and equitable service to all patrons. Experience managing branch operations, workflows, and service delivery. Ability to analyze and respond to community needs through programming, outreach, and services. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with staff, leadership, and the public. Experience handling complex patron interactions, conflict resolution, and service recovery. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with library systems, circulation operations, and standard office technology.
