DATE ENTERED: December 14, 2025 BOOKMOBILE OUTREACH SRVCS MGR SALARY: $19.50 Hourly/$40,560.00 Annually LOCATION: Lynchburg, VA JOB TYPE: Full-time JOB NUMBER: 03504 DEPARTMENT: Library OPENING DATE: 12/02/2025 CLOSING DATE: 1/4/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description This position manages the day-to-day operations of the Bookmobile Branch of the Lynchburg Public Library (LPL). The successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and expand outreach services while working under the limited supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations. Essential Duties - Oversees operation of the LPL Bookmobile, which provides scheduled stops within the City of Lynchburg, including senior residential communities and day centers, preschools and daycares, Lynchburg City Schools, public parks, and community events. - Works with the Collection Development Librarian to maintain a functional and dynamic collection of materials for patrons in a wide range of ages - May supervise assigned staff and volunteers, including training, coordinating, and monitoring or work activities and assisting with complex/problem situations, and providing technical expertise - Plans, develops, and presents engaging programs for patrons of all ages, including children, teens, adults, and seniors - Participates in public engagement events and represents the library in outreach services - Makes annual evaluation of Bookmobile schedule and outreach services - Attends monthly Department Heads meetings - Prepares regular reports for Library Administration - Collaborates closely with the LPL Volunteer Coordinator - Coordinates maintenance of the Bookmobile and is involved in selection of new vehicle with Fleet Services when necessary. Additional Duties: -Collaborates with other library staff members as requested on special projects. - hen unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery. Minimum Education and Experience Required QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution preferred. Strong knowledge of public library service principles and demonstrated experience in education, library work, or community outreach is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in educational, library, or community-based programming, along with excellent communication, organization, and public-engagement skills. Additional Requirements Possession of valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria are required. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
