Job Description:

The Janet D. Greenwood Library is seeking applicants for an Electronic Resources Assistant / Library Specialist I (00099).

Longwood University's Janet D. Greenwood Library supports teaching, learning, and researching to prepare individuals to be compassionate lifelong learners. Library services, collections, and spaces are designed to "Celebrate Curiosity." Services offered include library instruction, research assistance, document delivery, and interlibrary loan. Flexible spaces and furnishings allow for individual quiet study spaces and group meeting rooms. The library offers a variety of personalized services, including individual reference and research assistance with one of our librarians. Students, faculty, staff and visitors have access to almost 300 databases, more than half of which are provided by VIVA (the state supported consortium of higher education institutions in Virginia). Remote access is available to students, faculty, and staff.

The Electronic Resources Assistant (ERA) is responsible for supporting the following library functions:  the integrated library system, electronic resources, special acquisitions, and the library web presence. The position also provides frontline customer service at the library's main desk, interacts as needed with vendors, and supports other library staff. Some evening and weekend hours may be required for special events and programs.

The position reports to Head of Collections & Information Services. Job responsibilities include:

  • Provide frontline customer service (Information Services & Research)
  • Work within the integrated library system (SirsiDynix)
  • Assist with electronic resources (including databases and eBooks) and the products used to manage these resources
  • Assist with special acquisitions (Patron Driven Acquisition programs, special funding sources, etc.)
  • Assist with maintaining library websites and social media accounts
  • Perform basic library duties and other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Required:

  • High school diploma
  • Customer service experience 
  • Library work experience
  • Proficient with technology and willing to develop new skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills to complete major projects and daily tasks under strict time constraints; ability to organize a series of tasks with shifting priorities

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • College or university library experience 
  • Knowledge of or experience with web design and coding 
  • Knowledge of or experience with metadata and/or integrated library systems (SirsiDynix)
  • Knowledge of or experience with Springshare's LibApps

 Additional Information:

This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in pay band 3. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position.
