Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Special Collections Research Coordinator works collaboratively with staff in Special Collections & University Archives and the broader Simpson Library to provide excellent customer service to patrons using Special Collections & University Archives and the Digital Archiving Lab. Under the supervision of the Head of Special Collections & Digital Scholarship, this position will assist patrons during reading room open hours, provide research and reference assistance in-person, electronically, and via phone, as well as conduct outreach activities such as content creation for blogs and social media. This position will also supervise student assistants as they implement project plans created in collaboration with Special Collections & University Archives staff.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting historical research, working with archival collections, and/or preservation of records.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Computer programs and software used in an office environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications.

Additional Considerations:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting research in a university archive.
  • Demonstrated experience using digitization equipment and software in an academic library or archive.
  • Computer programs and software used in a library environment.
  • Knowledge of cataloging and/or archival standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws relating to university archives and records, including FERPA, HIPAA, copyright, and privacy information.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent training and/or experience required.
