POSITION:  Systems Analyst I – Chesapeake, VA

JOB TYPE: Full-time

SALARY: $66,702 - $88,400 starting annual salary range [Actual starting rate depends on experience and education]



The City of Chesapeake is seeking an experienced systems analyst to provide outstanding technical support to library staff and assist with libraries commitment to excellence.

  • The successful candidate for Systems Analyst I will have technical experience supporting Integrated Library systems (ILS) and other COTS packages.
  • Systems Analyst I will have worked on implementation projects and have outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Systems Analyst I will serve as the system administrator for the ILS and backup administrator for several other library systems.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience administering Koha & Aspen ILS system or similar
  • Experience maintaining 3rd party ILS integrations such as Automated Material Handling, Self check out, Online Payments, and Event and room management
  • Experienced with SQL / Reporting
  • Experience implementing new technology applications
  • IT Project Management Experience
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively
  • Strong Written and Oral Communications skills
  • Local Government experience


Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field.


Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
As applicable Information Technology based positions must meet requirements specified in Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) policy for access to the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN).


Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.


In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent experience.
