DATE ENTERED: November 15, 2023 Heritage Public Library is seeking an energetic, experienced librarian to lead our system to new heights. The director is responsible for overseeing all operations, planning for current and future needs of our communities, and communicating effectively with all library stakeholders. The selected candidate will manage: budget development and accounting processes, timely statistics gathering and reporting, grant-seeking and administration, and technology implementation. Our director will develop and maintain good relationships with the Library of Virginia in its role of public library support, with county administrators and service providers, and with leaders of the surrounding communities. Heritage Public Library (HPL) is a public 501c3 regional library serving the rural counties of New Kent and Charles City with a combined population of approximately 30,000. We are advantageously located between Richmond and Williamsburg in an area offering great physical beauty and an abundance of history to explore. Travel to beaches, mountains, and nearby urban areas is easy. New Kent County was recently recognized as the fastest growing locality in Virginia. HPL is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by both counties. The director serves at the pleasure of the Board. The Library has an annual budget of $560,000, staff of fifteen part-time employees, and a collection of 45,000 items. Preferred qualifications include professional public library experience, budget development and accounting knowledge, grant development and administration, supervisory experience, awareness of Federal, state, and local laws applicable to libraries and non-profits, skill in writing and speaking effectively. In addition, our selected candidate will meet the following requirements: -ALA accredited master’s degree, or completion of this degree within two years of employment -Supervisory experience in a library setting -Eligible for the Professional Librarian Certificate from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
