Chesterfield County Public Library (CCPL) is currently hiring for a part-time benefits eligible Librarian for Collection Management who shares our passion and who is willing to learn and apply the CCPL Way in customer interactions. The Librarian Selector: - Evaluates, selects, maintains and develops assigned areas of the collection system-wide in multiple formats while maintaining the balance, relevance, and appeal of the collection; - Exercises professional judgment to anticipate collection demand; address customer and staff requests - Analyzes, identifies and responds to collection needs; - Uses statistical data and reports to monitor use patterns, training needs and collection gaps; - Provides information and reader's advisory to the public by answering queries related to collection management and development; - Contributes to library work committees and partnerships; - Develops guidelines for projects and procedures in all areas of subject responsibility; - Acts as the system-wide resource person in all subjects assigned. - Performs other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience. Here's What You Will Need: The successful candidate will possess a master's degree in library and/or information science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the Library of Virginia; at least one year of related experience (experience as a professional librarian or experience in a public library preferred) to include experience with standard library information technology tools and resources related to librarianship such as operating relevant PC hardware/software, searching the internet and information databases, and using social media applications; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Candidate Should Also Possess: Working knowledge of the principles and practices of library and information science. Willingness to learn and apply CCPL's approach (CCPL Way) to initiating interaction and engaging customers. Ability to adapt and apply traditional and emerging library technologies to include, but not limited to, mobile technologies, physical and digital information environments; ability to operate a computer and related software, mobile devices, scanners, cash register and other common office equipment; strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience within and outside of the organization; strong interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external customers; good judgment and sound decision-making skills that support county/department initiatives and values; bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills desired. An applicant who does not meet the minimum qualifications may be hired as a trainee at a rate 5% below the minimum hourly rate. An employee in trainee status must successfully meet the minimum qualifications for the position within 12 months of hire, at which time, the employee will be removed from trainee status and the employee's rate will be adjusted to the minimum for the position. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in library office, library locations and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling crouching, keyboarding, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
