POSITION: Branch Manager
LOCATION: Central Virginia Regional Library, Buckingham County, Virginia
APPLY BY:  Open until filled with preference given to applications received by November 24, 2023.

The Central Virginia Regional Library is seeking a Branch Manager to provide leadership for the Buckingham County Public Library with a focus on giving patrons what they want, creating an inviting environment, marketing, and community engagement.

The Buckingham library opened at its current location in October 2020.  It shares a building with the county Community Center.  This 8,000 sq. ft. library serves 15,000 people across 584 square miles.  Buckingham County has low taxes and a wonderfully diverse population.  It is home to the LOTUS shrine in Yogaville and the St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary.  Principal economic activities include logging, mining, livestock, and farming.  Central Virginia has a rich history and offers numerous outdoor activities.  The library is located about an hour from Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg.

The Branch Manager is responsible for the smooth operation of the library.  This includes working the service desk; managing staff; collection development; programming; participating in community meetings and events; marketing services and programs; and helping both customers and staff use technology.  The position also hires, trains, and evaluates staff; creates work schedules; maintains statistics; acts as Library Friends liaison; and other duties as assigned.  This is a small community – the Branch Manager needs to get to know the people who use the library.

The successful candidate will have significant experience working in public libraries; management experience; above average interpersonal and communication skills; relevant technological expertise; an awareness of trends and best practices in public libraries; the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with staff and community leaders; experience with Microsoft Office; and a sense of humor.

The work schedule (40 hours per week) varies and includes evenings and weekends.  Candidates must have at least a four-year degree; an ALA accredited MLIS is preferred.  The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check.  This position includes health insurance (100% paid by the library), vacation and sick leave, and a retirement benefit.  The starting salary range is $40,000 to $45,000 depending on experience and education.

Only online applications will be accepted.  Qualified applicants should submit a letter of application, a detailed resume, and contact information for three references to Rick Ewing, Director, at [email protected].  Open until filled with preference given to applications received by November 24, 2023.
