DATE ENTERED: September 18, 2023 Library Assistant for Interlibrary Loan Hampden-Sydney College Bortz Library is seeking to fill the position of Library Assistant for Interlibrary Loan. This staff position reports to the Research and Instruction Librarian, and works primarily in the public services area of the library. The position’s areas of responsibility include interlibrary loan, circulation services, and course reserves. Position available January 1, 2024. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: investigating and resolving complex problems concerning interlibrary loan requests; troubleshooting scanning and resource sharing software systems; corresponding regularly with HSC students and faculty, as well as staff at other libraries; representing Bortz Library in resource sharing consortia and staying up to date on interlibrary loan best practices; and assisting in formulating, recommending, and implementing appropriate operational procedures within the interlibrary loan unit of the library. Proficiency and comfort with technology and new software, as well as excellent communication skills, are necessary for this position. Additional responsibilities include directly assisting library patrons with service operations at the Circulation Desk, overseeing the library’s course reserve systems, and supporting student workers and library staff in the delivery of library services.
