The Board of Trustees of the Cumberland County Public Library (CCPL) is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated professional to serve as its next Library Director.The position requires a  degree from an accredited college or university. MLS or MLIS are preferred.  We will consider a degree in Business Administration or other related degrees with demonstrated supervisory, budgetary, and database experience with a commitment to enroll in MLS/MLIS program. Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) and its circulation functions preferred. Must be an avid reader and/or a frequent library patron. The preferred candidate will have QuickBooks or related experience. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and with the public, in a friendly, tactful, efficient, and helpful manner are essential. Other essential skills are excellent written and verbal communication abilities, the ability to prioritize, utilize analytical thinking, and  experience using online databases, the internet and print resources, as well as solid computer skills in a variety of applications. The successful candidate must be able to adapt to change yet remain goal oriented and demonstrate independent initiative and judgment.

Under the direction of the governing Board of Trustees, the Library Director manages all aspects of the library operation. The Director is responsible for acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, budgeting/finance, staffing/training, facilities maintenance, planning, reporting, technology, programming, public relations, and community advocacy. CCPL enjoys a unique, collaborative relationship with the Cumberland County Public Schools, and its new director must be a team player devoted to literacy, education, and the use of 21^st century technologies in a rural community.

Cumberland County, with a population of 9,800, is in the heart of rural central Virginia between Richmond and Charlottesville. Residents enjoy a quiet rural setting close to many entertainment opportunities. The library has an excellent reputation and is the hub of the community. In addition to the Director, the library has a staff of five part time employees and an enthusiastic group of volunteers. The annual budget is over $200,000  and the library has a collection of over18,000 items.

Starting salary range-$45,000 to $50,000 depending on qualifications and experience
