General Description of Position
This position interacts with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community at-large to insure high quality public service. Assists the Head of Access Services and Outreach in the daily operation of the department, which includes the supervising, hiring, and training of the student assistants. During certain times, the Library Specialist I will have sole responsibility for the Access Services Department operations, the physical building and its contents, and for the safety of the Library patrons. This position has significant responsibilities in providing and monitoring weekend security protocols to all library patrons. The position serves as the primary back up to the Night Circulation Student Supervisor. Those duties include supporting the department’s work in circulation, serials, monographs, media, and stack maintenance.
The position is scheduled to work on-site:
Tuesday – Thursday : 11am-8pm
Friday : 8am-5pm
Saturday : 12pm-6pm
The work schedule varies during the summer session and breaks.
Required KSAs / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform their work
The ability to effectively supervise student assistants.
The ability to create and maintain spreadsheets and keep statistics.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The ability to create content and utilize social media platforms.
Must possess a public service oriented attitude that results in positive public relations.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interpret policies and procedures.
Ability to use Microsoft Office products.

Preferred KSA's / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform the work
Experience with automated library software.
Experience with using and modifying Web application software.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent training and experience.
Required Experience
Previous public service experience and supervisory experience.
Previous experience utilizing and creating content for social media platforms.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred Experience
Experience in the use of an Integrated Library System.
Experience and knowledge of marketing/outreach practices.
Required Licensure
Preferred Licensure
