Chesterfield County Public Library (CCPL) is seeking a part-time, bilingual Outreach Librarian to join its team of innovative, forward-thinking professionals in providing engaging information services to a vibrant and appreciative community.

The Outreach Librarian is part of the library’s Community Services department and duties include seeking out and participating in outreach opportunities to increase CCPL’s exposure in the community. Travel to other libraries and non-library locations required.

 The Librarian will......
 • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers within library and at community events.
 • Promote library brand and value of the library to the community
 • Identify community needs and provide information on appropriate programs and services to underserved and at-risk communities, at community and school events, and at other events/locations as needed.
 • Assist in the development of services designed to fulfill the library’s strategic outreach goals.
 • Provide written and verbal English to Spanish/Spanish to English communication support at outreach opportunities, able to translate Spanish to English/English to Spanish written communication for internal support on occasion).
 • Provide learning, reference, and engagement opportunities to library customers through a thorough knowledge of library resources and services.
 • Promote literacy at all levels, providing access to resources and materials for all ages, interests, and backgrounds, meet with community groups, school employees and others inside and outside the facility to provide library services and promote learning initiatives.
 • Perform other work as required.

This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Successful candidate will possess a master's degree in library and/or information science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the Library of Virginia; at least one year of experience as a professional librarian at a public library; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An applicant who does not meet the minimum qualifications may be hired as a trainee at a rate 5% below the minimum hourly rate. An employee in trainee status must successfully meet the minimum qualifications for the position within 12 months of hire, at which time, the employee will be removed from trainee status and the employee's rate will be adjusted to the minimum for the position.
Must be a proficient user of library technologies, such as OPACs, eReaders, mobile technologies and common office and online applications and can engage with users of all ages.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in library office, library locations, outdoor events and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling crouching, keyboarding, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
