POSITION: Urbanna Branch Manager/ Acquisition, Cataloging, and Collection Management Specialist (full time)

LOCATION: Middlesex County Public Library, Urbanna, Virginia

DESCRIPTION: Performs supervisory, managerial, administrative, training, and patron services at the Urbanna Branch Library. Oversees daily operations within building, including staff and volunteers. Also performs and/or directs the acquisition, cataloging, processing, and eventual weeding of library materials in a manner that supports the overall goals of the Middlesex County Public Library. Work involves placing orders for library materials, receiving and checking shipments from distributors, cataloging materials (mostly copy cataloging, occasional original cataloging), and directing the processing of new items. Coordinates and maintains interlibrary loan process. Runs reports and collaborates with other professional personnel on collection management at both branch libraries (together house approximately 50,000 items). Provides assistance at the front desk of the Urbanna Branch Library performing circulation, reference, and computer help duties as needed. Reports to the Executive Director.

REQUIREMENTS: A degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in library and/or information science, including coursework in cataloging. MLIS preferred.  Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) and its circulation and cataloging functions required. Experience using the Evergreen ILS greatly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and/or training must be approved by the Executive Director. Requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching; talking and hearing clearly, including use of telephone; lifting and carrying 20 pounds or less; pushing and pulling book trucks on wheels that weigh 20-50 pounds; dexterity for word processing, writing, filing, and shelving; vision to see all levels of shelving and to see while using computer. Must be highly organized and show leadership potential. Position may require working evenings and/or Saturday hours.

SALARY: Full time (37.5 hours weekly) position, salary range $35,000 to $37,000. Includes generous paid time off, compensatory time, flex time, health insurance assistance, and retirement plan through TIAA/CREF as benefits.
