Job Description     
Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for over 50 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. The College also provides non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry.

Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) is seeking a creative and collaborative full-time Head Librarian for the Houff Library on its Weyers Cave Virginia campus. The Head Librarian will provide supervision and leadership to the library staff to provide outstanding support for students, employees, and the community through delivering services that include reference and circulation services and library instruction to students in various classes. The Head Librarian will be an effective communicator who gathers, prioritizes, and implements the library needs for the college community and is able to reinvent the Library to address a rapidly changing academic and teaching landscape at BRCC. This position supports the College’s academic programs including serving as program manager for one of the College’s degree programs by working closely with teaching faculty. The Head Librarian is expected to work closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Resources and the Dean of Student Services to help lead student success efforts for the College.

  • ability to supervise and lead the library staff in a dynamic environment;
  • ability to establish effective communications across the College, particularly with teaching faculty;
  • strong verbal, writing and technology skills;
  • familiarity with and support of the College’s Mission, Values, and Strategic Directions;
  • Master’s degree in Library Science or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications     

  • knowledge of curriculum and ability to lead designated academic program initiatives;
  • knowledge of and experience with SACSCOC library standards.

The position is a 12-month/24-pay, renewable, professional faculty appointment, with an anticipated start date of October 10, 2022. Salary depends on academic qualifications and applicable professional experience. Anticipated salary range $70,000 – $85,000.
