S/he is a thought leader who excels in interpersonal communication and collaborative leadership, as well as the day-to-day operational and organizational responsibilities of an administrator.

The Deputy Director leads through a team of senior level direct reports and serves as a member of the Library's Leadership Team. This position contributes to formulation of library policy, short and long- range planning, program development, evaluation, and provides input into allocation of resources in support of the library’s strategic initiatives.

About this position:

  • Manages Public Services, supervising the Assistant Library Director for Public Services, the Office of Programming and the Office of Outreach Services as well as the Materials Services Division.
  • Performs project management.
  • Oversees policy creation and review.
  • Collaborates successfully with other library department and teams, as well as successfully partnering with external agencies and organizations.
  • Acts on behalf of the Library Director, as necessary.
  • Serves as member of the Library Leadership Team.
  • Participates in Performance Hiring, Coaching, and counselling.

PREFERENCES: The successful candidate will have….

  • Demonstrated experience with staff management and development.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Branch management experience in a public library.
  • Experience using a Strategic Plan as a resource tool for daily operations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or G.E.D. and seven years of progressively responsible related experience that includes management and supervisory experience.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:  This is a full-time exempt position. While the base hours are primarily typical office hours, due to the nature of public library operations, this person will need to be available to public services on nights and weekends for emergency issues and may be required to attend Library Board meetings one evening a month.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS).
  • This position will require driving during business Hours. DMV checks are conducted for all county employees driving during business hours.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $101,832-$119,355 Annually
