DESCRIPTION: Chesapeake Public Library is seeking a dynamic Training Specialist to develop, coordinate, and implement training for new and existing employees and/or volunteers in association with skill development, the application of policies and procedures, and pathways for future growth in cooperation with Library Leadership.

The Training Specialist will:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive staff development and training program that supports and enhances both the short and long-range mission of the Library and City-wide goals and strategies.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer training program to meet the needs of the Library and provide meaningful work for volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Library Leadership Teams to design curriculum for diverse Library staff and volunteers.
  • Be a key member of library and system committees.
  • May supervise staff and recommend training, counseling, evaluating work, performance improvement and termination.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possesses knowledge and experience with online and classroom training.
Has experience working with leadership teams and managing multiple programs simultaneously on the direction of system-wide training.
Is well versed in customer service and performance management.
Demonstrates skilled team leadership and experience in creating and developing training programs and identifying opportunities for future organizational growth.
Is a proactive individual with a strong work ethic who will anticipate challenges, recommend innovative solutions and deliver results.
The candidate must possess strong oral and written communication skills.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in human resources, organizational development, training and development, business management, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards depending on department.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
