Description: Roanoke College’s Fintel Library invites enthusiastic, energetic, creative, and collegial candidates to apply for the full-time position of Instruction & Research Services Librarian.  As part of the Fintel Library team, the Instruction & Research Services Librarian will share responsibility for improving the quality of Library services, user satisfaction, and academic success through a proactive and collaborative approach.   Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Instruction & Research Services Librarian will serve as the lead librarian for reference and research services and the Library’s instruction program. The Instruction & Research Services Librarian will be responsible for conducting library instruction sessions for Intellectual Inquiry 110, the Honors Program, and in assigned subject disciplines.

The Instruction & Research Services Librarian supervises an interlibrary loan staff member and serves as subject liaison to assigned academic departments.  Liaison responsibilities will include promotion of library services, collaboration with students, faculty, and staff in the development and assessment of library collections for assigned subject areas.  On a rotating basis, the Instruction & Research Services Librarian will provide evening reference service and weekend on-call coverage. The Instruction & Research Services Librarian may also have the opportunity to coordinate the Public History Library Practicum.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • ALA-accredited MLS, MIS or equivalent advanced degree in library / information science
  • Demonstrated instruction experience in a higher education setting;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education;
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and assessing instructional program learning outcomes;
  • Demonstrated collection development experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with integrated library system software and discovery tools.


Preferred Qualifications & Experience:  Supervisory experience; experience in instructional design and instructional and multimedia technologies; experience with the Ex Libris Alma/Primo; experience with the Springshare content management and research guide platform.
