SALARY: $51,808 Annual

DESCRIPTION:  Chesapeake Public Library is seeking a dynamic Teen Librarian to develop, coordinate, and implement teen programs and initiatives.

The Teen Librarian will:
Work with teens, volunteers, community partners and staff to develop a comprehensive plan for teen services to support the mission of the Library.
Supervise and coordinate the implementation of the teen volunteer program across the system.
Maintain the teen collection by coordinating the weeding, marketing, and merchandising of teen materials to ensure access to a wide variety of library resources, services, and activities for all teens, especially those facing challenges to access.
Assess current trends in teen services and cultivate high-quality, developmentally appropriate programming.
Build respectful, reciprocal relationships with community organizations and families to promote optimal development opportunities for teens and to enhance the quality of library services.
Know the typical benchmarks for growth and development and uses this knowledge to plan, provide and evaluate library resources, programs, and services that meet the multiple needs of teens.
May assist in other public service areas when needed.

Preferred qualifications:  Public library experience preferred with other library experience considered.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:  Requires an American Library Association accredited master’s degree in Library Science.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Virginia Public Librarian Certificate required within three months of employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience, including some supervisory experience. Public library experience preferred with other library experience considered.

An acceptable criminal history and Child Protective Services (CPS) reports are required.

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-terms department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
