GENERAL SUMMARY:  
The Adult Programming & Reference Services Manager for the Regional Library oversees the daily operation of the department including hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating staff and coordinating adult programming and reference services at the Central Library. The Adult Programming & Reference Services Manager rotates into the Reference Desk schedule providing library assistance to a diverse downtown population. This position also provides and supervises public computer instruction for library patrons.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provides region-wide leadership for library reference policies, procedures, goals, training and customer service and participates in various committees;
  • Responsible for selecting print and electronic/database sources regionally including working with outside vendors and internal staff to ensure successful and accurate resource delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Possession of an M.L.S. degree (Masters of Library Science) from an ALA accredited school is required.
  • At least three (3) years experience in public library adult reference services including previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Strong public service orientation as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.  
  • Statistical and administrative record-keeping/reporting is required.
  • Applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings in rotation.
  • Applicants with extensive knowledge of electronic and print reference information services as well as experience with Millennium and OCLC library automation systems are preferred.
  • A candidate willing and open to trying new library–related technology is preferred.
