Coordinator of Library Services    

Position Summary: The Coordinator of Library Services is responsible for the management of the campus library, which supports the diverse information needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community. The Coordinator of Library Services reports to the Associate Vice President for Libraries.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the activities and services provided through the campus library. Ensures the library operates according to established schedules, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervises a staff of professional librarians, paraprofessional support staff, and wage employees; leads staff to participate in professional activities of all kinds. Evaluates librarians, and evaluates or reviews evaluations of paraprofessional staff annually. Consults with the Associate Vice President for Libraries on all major personnel actions.
  • Works a regular schedule at the library public service desk, providing client/patron services including student/faculty research services using print and electronic resources, and circulation services using the integrated library system. May also teach library instruction/information literacy programs including individualized instruction, tours, general orientations, and subject/course-related instruction.
  • Serves as the primary campus contact and administrator for the library. Keeps the Campus community updated on changes in library hours, staffing, policies or procedures affecting faculty, staff and/or students. Participates in campus events as appropriate and distributes brief reports to college-wide library staff in a timely manner. Works closely with campus faculty, academic deans, and student support services to encourage cooperation between the library and campus community.
  • Works closely with the Associate Vice President and college-wide library management team to develop and administer budgets, lead collection development and assessment activities, support the library instruction and assessment program, initiate marketing of library resources to constituent groups, produce well-written library reports, and manage overall planning.
  • May serve as the college-wide lead for one or more functional areas as needed, such as: Library Instruction, Library System, Open Educational Resources, Outreach, Course Reserves, Collection Development, Public Service, etc.
  • Involves the campus library and its staff in college-wide activities; engages library staff in supporting academic initiatives.

KSA’s/Required Qualifications:
1.    Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse staff of professionals and paraprofessionals.
2.    Substantial knowledge of academic library operations and management.
3.    Substantial knowledge of contemporary library practices and trends, including emerging technologies.
4.    Thorough knowledge of library reference materials, including electronic resources, and the reference interview process.
5.    Demonstrated skills in customer service for a diverse clientele of students and faculty.
6.    Knowledge of the use of technology for library applications.
7.    Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and general public.
8.    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
9.    Ability to plan effectively and to serve as a member of a college-wide library planning team.
10.    Demonstrated skills in team building and professional development.
11.    Ability to manage a budget.
12.    Ability to work closely with administrators and faculty in a campus team environment.
13.    Ability to make effective and appropriate decisions in a timely and efficient manner.
14.    Master’s or doctorate degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program.

2.    Experience with community relations
3.    Experience with collection development relevant to campus curriculum
4.    Experience working in an urban library
5.    Knowledge of the needs of non-traditional students
6.    Additional education in management or research subject expertise
7.    Experience with assessment of library instruction
8.    Experience with assessment of library collections
9.    Experience with project management
