POSITION INFORMATION
Arlington County's Central Library is seeking an Electronic Collections Librarian to work in the Materials Management Division and oversee the library's electronic collections. These collections include database resources such as Gale and ProQuest, as well as collections of downloadable and streaming content such as e-books, e-audiobooks, and videos. Under the supervision of the Collection Development Manager, this position will be the subject matter expert for the electronic collections, working with the Collection Development Manager and Division Chief for Materials Management to determine overall strategy regarding electronic collections.

Specific duties include:

  • Assessing current collection offerings and making recommendations to better serve the Library's patrons;
  • Statistical analysis of collection usage;
  • Training staff and patrons on use of collections;
  • Working with the Library's marketing and collections staffs to develop awareness and incorporate electronic collections in to overall strategy;
  • Troubleshooting current electronic collections and acting as the first point of contact when any service disruption occurs; and
  • Interfacing with vendors to resolve technical issues and coordinating with the Library's Virtual Services and LANRU teams to implement upgrades.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA
Minimum: Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Science and up to three years of experience working and streaming library electronic collections, such as databases.

Applicants may be hired up to the senior level which requires 3 years, or may be hired at lower levels with 1 year required at entry level and 2 years required at the journey level.

Desirable: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Experience in developing and delivering training materials, both remotely (via a web-based training portal such as GoToMeeting) and in-person;
  • Experience evaluating electronic collections in a library market; and/or
  • Knowledge of vendor contracts and subscription models for digital resources.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location and work hours: Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy Street. Full-time, 40 hours per week to include some evening and weekend work. Actual work schedule is determined by the needs of the work location.
