The Emory & Henry College Library is seeking an innovative Health Sciences Librarian. This position oversees the new School of Health Sciences Library & Learning Center (SHS Library), opening in Spring 2020, and provides information services for the health science programs on both campuses. This includes providing research assistance, collection development, information and digital literacy instruction, and circulation. Reports to the Library Director.


  • Manages the operations of the SHS Library, including circulation, study room reservations, and research poster printing
  • Provides specialized information services to students and faculty in all health science areas on both campuses
  • Participates in the library information and digital literacy instruction program and promotes the integration of these literacies into the health science degree programs
  • Creates online tutorials and library guides in support of the health science curriculums
  • Oversees the SHS Library collections and participates in ongoing collection development and weeding based upon current needs
  • Staff on-call reference shifts on a regular basis and works at the main campus library once a week or as needed
  • Assists in data collection and analysis for assessment purposes
  • Oversees exams administered in the testing center
  • Coordinates and trains staff and student employees in functions related to SHS Library



  • MLIS, MLS, or MIS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Ability to support adult learning in information and digital literacy instruction and instruction design
  • Familiarity with MeSH, medical terminology, syntax filters, and boolean login and their use in systematic searches
  • Strong public service orientation; must possess professional written, oral, and presentation skills and have experience using a variety of software applications applicable to libraries, higher education, and the workplace
  • Strong interpersonal skills required with a proven ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, and staff colleagues as well as vendors and service providers.


  • Experience in a medical or health sciences library and/or coursework or experience relevant to the health sciences is preferred
  • Collection development experience in the health sciences is preferred
