Job Description: Germanna Community College is currently seeking candidates for the position of Medical Librarian at our Barbara J. Fried Center in Stafford County. This faculty-ranked position is a key member of the Library staff. The incumbent contributes to the teaching, learning, and outreach mission of the college at all campuses.

This position will:

  • Serve the students and faculty through face-to-face and online instruction in the use of information resources and instructional technology
  • Provide reference services that support student success in completing curricular assignments and select instructional materials relevant to the college curricula
  • Manage the Barbara J. Fried Center Joint Use Library and collaborate with the Library Coordinator and the Central Rappahannock Regional Library to ensure continuity of service
  • Participate in all library technical processes, including circulation, interlibrary loan, and cataloging
  • Participate in collection development, including acquisitions and weeding
  • Travel to other libraries to provide support when needed

This position is a full time 12-month faculty ranked administrative position.
Salary is commensurate with rank and credentials plus state benefits.

  • ALA-accredited Master’s in Library Science degree or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent
  • Experience teaching course-related information literacy instruction sessions at the college level
  • Experience providing professional reference services in person, by e-mail, by phone, etc.
  • Experience using Library Management Systems, such as Alma, to produce reports or lists
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends and at all Germanna campuses and centers as needed
  • Ability to design effective print and digital instructional materials
  • Strong commitment to customer service


  • Experience collaboratively designing, teaching, and assessing course-related information literacy instruction sessions at the college level
  • Experience employing a variety of pedagogical approaches in teaching information literacy at the college level
  • Experience using word processing and spreadsheet applications to create and maintain documents and spreadsheets
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas
  • Experience designing digital instructional materials using screen recording software, such as Jing or Camtasia
