Librarian I/II – Digital Services #30484    
The position may be filled as either a Librarian I or Librarian II (Digital Services) depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant.  

Job Duties Librarian I - Digital Services:  Salary Range:  $46,134.40 - $69,929.60
1.    Co-Leads the Digital Services Team, which is comprised of representative branch and support staff, to direct and implement the design and usability of the library’s website.
2.    Collaborates to sustain the library’s internal and external web presence related to usability, accessibility.
3.    Supports the integration of digital applications and services and electronic resources.
4.    Facilitates analysis using statistics and web analytics for the library’s digital services to ensure that applications are functional, content is accurate and timely, and links are valid.
5.    Ensure the Library’s digital resources are in alignment with the library’s brand and strategic vision.
6.    Serve as a content collaborator for the Library’s digital presence with library Community Relations and Development staff and the Content Advisory Board to ensure accurate and timely information.
7.    Evaluate and recommend based on defined criteria, new technologies and digital resources to improve discovery, access, and delivery of library services.
8.    Work with vendors that provide key products and services to evaluate, develop and maintain connectivity and electronic resources for the library.
9.    Provide technology and training support for library digital services.
10.    Assist in the development of research resources through the digitization of primary source materials.
11.    Manage projects including; timelines, development of costs, and progress.
12.    Participate on Library and citywide teams to ensure library initiatives and priorities are represented in City decisions.
13.    Participates in and supports activities of all assigned teams in an informed, constructive, and organized manner to ensure accurate communication on the status of the library’s digital initiatives.
14.    Remain current on topics affecting the library profession through reading professional journals and digital lists, participation in professional organizations or continuing education activities to anticipate and meet customer needs.
15.    Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

1.    Co-Leads the Digital Services Team, which is comprised of representative branch and support staff, to direct and implement the design and usability of the library’s website.
2.    Collaborates to sustain the library’s internal and external web presence related to usability, accessibility.
3.    Develops and supports the integration of digital applications and services and electronic resources.
4.    Collaborates in management of the design, development and maintenance of the library’s websites.
5.    Facilitate and interpret analysis using statistics and web analytics for the library’s digital services to ensure that applications are functional, content is accurate and timely, and links are valid.
6.    Ensure the Library’s digital resources are in alignment with the library’s brand and strategic vision.
7.    Establish and manage a web presence governance model.
8.    Serve as a content collaborator for the library’s digital presence with Library Community Relations and Development staff and the Content Advisory Board to ensure accurate and timely information.
9.    Evaluate and recommend based on defined criteria, new technologies and digital resources to improve discovery, access, and delivery of library services.
10.    Work with vendors that provide products and services to evaluate, develop and maintain connectivity and electronic resources for the library.
11.    Provide technology and training support for library digital services.
12.    Assist in the development of research resources through the digitization of primary source materials.
13.    Participate, upon request, in library strategic planning.
14.    Manages projects; including timelines, development of costs, and progress.
15.    Participate on Library and citywide teams to ensure library initiatives and priorities are represented in City decisions.
16.    Participates in and supports activities of all assigned teams in an informed, constructive, and organized manner to ensure accurate communication on the status of the library’s digital initiatives.
17.    Participate in planning and implementation of grants related to library technology.
18.    Remain current on topics affecting the library profession through reading professional journals and digital lists, participation in professional organizations or continuing education activities to anticipate and meet customer needs.
19.    Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.

Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

Requires a Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences: 

  • Experience of working with vendors that provide key products and services to evaluate, develop and maintain connectivity and electronic resources for the library
  • Experience in producing accurate and timely products based on best practices in the profession
  • Experience with web standards and best practices including usability and ADA accessibility requirements
  • Experience with selecting and/or acquiring library related vendor supplied products and services
  • Experience with designing, creating, and managing content for the library's digital services
  • Experience with developing and maintaining documentation for digital initiatives
