GENERAL DUTIES: Provides expertise and day-to-day decision-making in the management of Library Collections for the Library System; assures that the material holdings for each library location meet the vision, mission and core values for the Library System, including not only hardcopy and electronic materials selection but also materials de-selection; interacts with outside vendors and County departments; non-supervisory and does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Manages one assigned primary collection area (Juvenile):

Maintains a current working knowledge of an assigned primary collection area, which may include sub specialty collections, including all current collection formats such as print, audio, digital, etc. and adapts professional knowledge and skills as well as the Library collection to ensure continuing relevance; uses appropriate review sources for the assigned primary collection area including blogs, listservs, web sites, professional publications, etc.; utilizes current collection analysis software to analyze and manage one assigned collection area; selects, maintains and updates the assigned primary collection, which may include sub specialty collections, in collaboration with Library staff, public interests and needs, and in accordance with County and Library goals and policies; performs periodic collection management duties as required which may include periodical and continuation renewals, database evaluation and renewals, etc.; participates on committees as assigned and may lead specialty committees as assigned; develops and maintains current documentation of collection management formats, analysis and trending, including policies, procedures and processes for one assigned area; collaborates with supervisor and department budget development process to develop and submit budget projections for one assigned collection area each fiscal year; assists with or handles special projects as assigned including opening day collections; participates in the reconsiderations process in accordance with current Library practices and policies; works with vendors specific to the assigned primary collection area to effectively manage collection; investigates and monitors trends in the assigned primary collection area and related formats and makes recommendations to ensure Library's collections are relevant to customers' needs and expectations as well as the Library's current service plan; liaisons with Public Services Staff serving as point person for one assigned collection area; prepares and presents reports for the public and Library staff; performs other duties as assigned.

Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to interact patiently, respectfully and with tact and courtesy with all internal and external customers. Must be able to positively and appropriately represent the County and Library with the public. Requires the ability to work at various locations within the County. Requires ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Master of Library Science (MLS) and two (2) years of relevant experience at Level I.

Possession of a Librarian's Certificate issued by the Virginia Board for the Certification of Librarians is required.

Requires a valid driver's license to provide support at various locations Countywide.
