DESCRIPTION: This award-winning regional library system is seeking an experienced Copy Cataloger in the Collection Discovery Department at our Library Administration Center. The Library Administration Center is located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and is within commuting distance to nearby Marine Corps Base Quantico.  Located midway between Washington, DC, and Richmond, VA, Central Rappahannock Regional Library serves over 300,000 residents in four jurisdictions through ten branches, two satellite locations and a Library Administration Center. The library enjoys strong community support, with annual circulation over four million, an annual budget of more than twelve million dollars, and a dedicated and forward-looking staff of over 300. Fredericksburg and the surrounding area are home to an active arts community, the University of Mary Washington, plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities, and a rich history.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: This position will locate and edit available MARC records, in order to ensure easy and efficient discovery and access to library materials both physically in the branches and virtually through the library catalog. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Demonstrated competency using Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress subject headings required.
•    Knowledge of cataloging, and current trends, and experience working with Horizon, MARC, RDA, AACR2, OCLC and LC cataloging and other appropriate cataloging and metadata standards in a public library setting preferred.
•    Skill with detail-oriented work and complex analytical thinking and decision making required.
•    Managing multiple priorities and meeting ongoing deadlines required.
•    Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with staff, and the general public required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Bachelor’s degree, and at least two years experience working with OCLC and/or MARC records required. Strong customer service orientation, good communication skills, flexible work habits, and ability to relate to fellow staff required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires work that involves walking or standing, bending and stooping; and involves exerting up to 30 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis to lift and/or move library materials. Ability to sit or stand at a desk and/or computer for extended hours, read computer screens and use computer keyboards.

SALARY:  Hiring starts at $36,456 with excellent benefits, including affordable health insurance premiums and VRS retirement for a total compensation package worth approximately $54,800 per year.
