WHO WE ARE:
Chesterfield County Public Library (CCPL) is a non-traditional, forward-thinking library system.  We are passionate about providing access to information, facilitating engaging customer experiences and enriching the lives of our community in innovative ways.  CCPL is currently hiring for Substitute Librarians who share our passion and who are willing to learn and apply the CCPL Way in all customer interactions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
Successful candidate will possess a master's degree in library and/or information science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); possession of or ability to obtain a Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State Library Board; at least one year of related experience; (experience as a professional librarian or experience in a public library preferred); or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Working knowledge of the principles and practices of library and information science.  Willingness to learn and apply CCPL's approach (CCPL Way) to initiating interaction and engaging customers.  Ability to adapt to and apply traditional and emerging library technologies to include, but not limited to, mobile technologies, physical and digital information environments; ability to plan and implement creative and educational learning opportunities that align with customer needs; ability to operate a computer and related software, mobile devices, scanners, cash register and other common office equipment.  Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience within and outside of the organization; strong interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external customers.  Good judgment and sound decision-making skills that support county/department initiatives and values.  An applicant who does not meet the minimum qualifications may be hired as a trainee at a rate 5% below the minimum hourly rate.  An employee in trainee status must successfully meet the minimum qualifications for the position within 12 months of hire, at which time, the employee will be removed from trainee status and the employee's rate will be adjusted to the minimum for the position.  Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.  

DUTIES:  
Provide learning, reference and engagement opportunities to library customers by creating an exceptional customer experience (i.e. roving reference, interactive conversations, one-on-one learning sessions, personalized learning plans, etc.) on a substitute basis.  Educate customers and staff about the use and evaluation of various information tools and strategies, including research databases.  Assist with programs and annual signature events.  Apply knowledge of library collection, publishing and authors to meet the reading and viewing preferences of customers.  Provide substitute coverage as determined by the needs of the Library.  Perform other work as required. 

PLEASE NOTE:  We are interested in hiring flexible individuals to provide coverage for staff who are unable to work their regular shift due to unforeseen circumstances and planned time off.  Possible hours you could be asked to work are listed under "shift".

Shift
As needed Monday - Friday between 8:45a.m. - 9:10p.m.; Saturday between 8:45a.m. - 5:10p.m.
