Botetourt County (pronounced Bot-ah-tot); with an area of 542 square miles and a population of 33,100, is one of Virginia’s most scenic and historically significant counties. Nestled just north of Roanoke, Virginia, Botetourt County offers American history blended with nature and modern attractions.  When it was first established, the County extended all the way to the Mississippi River, covering parts of seven present-day states. Recently, Botetourt has been involved in a host of projects and exciting announcements. ELDOR - a new auto parts manufacturing facility opened in the fall, Ballast Point - a major craft brewery opened just over a year ago, the Virginia Community College Shared Service center has relocated to the area.  These and other expansions of existing businesses are creating over 1,000 new jobs in the County.

Botetourt County is recruiting applicants for the position of Library Director.  
This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement through the Virginia Retirement System.

Position Summary
The Library Director is responsible for the strategic and efficient delivery of accessible information resources and programs in creative and effective support of public education, life-long learning and skills development, and community engagement.  The incumbent performs leadership, management and technical work in support of the library system and the entire County government organization.

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate degree from an American Library Association accredited program in library science
  • Prior library management experience required
  • Five years demonstrated effective senior management experience in a progressive public library organization preferred
