The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Librarian III – Adult Services for Adult Programming in a team oriented and collaborative environment, coordinates with the various library agencies to ensure adult programs (ages 18 and above) are designed and presented that meet the information and recreational needs of the community and are aligned with the VBPL and City strategic initiatives. Develop community partnerships in support of adult programming. Works with the Youth and Family Services Manager to ensure seamless collaboration. Work with VBPL Marketing unit to ensure consistent branding of adult programming and that public relations deadlines are met. Serve as the Adult Services budget administrator by working with the VBPL Marketing & Development and Finance unit on grant development, grant administration, budget units while overseeing other budgetary issues pertaining to the unit. The Adult Services Coordinator will research and analyze a variety of information, including the identification of outside funding sources, to create a budget to seek adequate funding for agency operations; and direct the expenditure of funds and evaluate the budget to ensure resources are used effectively. Maintain adult programming budget, keeping a record of all expenditures, including contracts, check requests, tax documents, and other receipts. Seek grants and other sources of funding for programs. Speak to community groups as requested. Attend continuing education programs. Maintain currency of knowledge of library and programming trends. Work in conjunction with the Public Services Administrator.

Learn, understand, and incorporate emerging trends in adult services and programs to predict the direction of change and design responsive library services and programs; lead the library department in understanding and implementing new models for library services and programs; coordinate the implementation of service and program model changes in the department in order to enhance library services and programs for staff and customers.

In a team oriented and collaborative environment, provides advanced information services to library customers through reference interviews, research, reader's advisory, resources and bibliographic instruction which require a broad knowledge of print, non-print, and electronic resources; promotes the library's collection and services through programs and other activities. Uses appropriate oral and written communication skills with internal and external customers; exercises independent judgment skills and advanced problem solving and negotiation skills; participates on City and department teams. Additional duties may be assigned to ensure the day-to-day work flow of the agency.

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

Requires a Master of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university, plus 4 years of professional/administrative library work which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.
