Virginia Beach Library is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and productive Librarian II to work as a Disability Services Librarian, who will work in collaboration with the Library Manager; develop, plan, promote, administer, and evaluate the operation of a Library of Congress National Library Service sub-regional library for the blind; in collaboration with the Youth, Teen, and Adult Services librarians coordinate the development and implementation of a plan to design, promote, administer, and evaluate programming and services for people with disabilities; through extensive outreach, promote and maintain effective working relationships with library employees, volunteers, customers, and community organizations; knowledge of needs and interests of persons with disabilities; knowledge of relevant technology and training, adaptive and emerging technologies; skill in project management and computer applications; skill in prioritizing services; skill in developing and presenting training and communicating orally to a variety of audiences; Ability to work with outside organizations as part of a productive team; ability to use creative thinking to market library services to a wide variety of audiences and ability to solve problems, identify community needs, work independently, experiment with new ideas, methodologies and procedures.

Requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university, plus two (2) years of professional/administrative library work which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.
