VIRGINIA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY (www.vwu.edu) invites applications for the Research Librarian I with liaison responsibilities for online learning and the Joan P. Brock School of Mathematics & Natural Sciences. This position is a full-time, 12-month exempt position with faculty status reporting directly to the Director of Hofheimer Library. An ALA-accredited Master’s in library or information science is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

“Virginia Wesleyan is Coastal Virginia’s Premier University of the Liberal Arts and Sciences,” offering both graduate (MBA, MAEd) and undergraduate programs in a traditional on- campus setting and online. VWU offers 35 undergraduate majors, 30 minors and a dozen pre-professional programs.  Affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located on a 300-acre wooded campus in Virginia Beach, the University enrolls approximately 1,600 students.

Hofheimer Library is highly collaborative, innovative, caring and inclusive environment that demands collegiality and adaptability. Each research librarian serves as a liaison to specific academic departments, provides research assistance, designs and delivers library instruction, and develops the library collection in relevant subject areas. Research librarians contribute to library-wide planning and assessment efforts; teach technology workshops for faculty; and staff outreach and orientation events. As the online learning resource person, this librarian evaluates and deploys innovative tools for the delivery of instructional content to online students; consults with faculty on the use of library resources (such as e-books and electronic journal articles) in online courses; and advises faculty about Open Education Resources and  copyright issues.
