The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Library Data Analyst, under the direction of the Director of Libraries that will:

Lead a variety of research and evaluation efforts for and about the Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) –designing studies and surveys, analyzing the results, and presenting the findings in a variety of formats

Evaluate, refine, manipulate and/or automate business intelligence software to collect and analyze operational metrics related to the VBPL’s strategic initiatives

Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in available data to inform appropriate staff about topics crucial to library services

Keep library data current and readily available to fulfill data requests from administrative, branch, and unit staff

Manage outcome-based evaluations of library programs, including research design, instrument development, data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting

In collaboration with library staff, design and produce infographics and other innovative visual presentations of data

Work closely with staff to provide online access to data and to manage web-based evaluation tools

Gather, analyze and relate data from other City departments, Census Bureau, regional planning organizations, and other sources to create system-wide and location-specific demographic profiles and forecasts, and ensure appropriate Library response to community needs

Respond to external research/statistics questions and complete surveys including those from Library of Virginia, American Library Association, and Public Library Association

Perform benchmarking analyses against peer library jurisdictions to inform comparisons on key performance and other relevant measures

Ensure sources are referenced and defined in order to maintain standardization of data integrity.

Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to 8 years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as public or business administration.

Salary Range:  $50,273.60 - $77,188.80

Preferences: Experience with manipulating and evaluating business intelligence software.
Experience with analyzing and interpreting trends or patterns in available data.
Experience with managing outcome-based evaluations of library programs.
Experience with preparing comprehensive analytical reports.
Experiences with gathering, analyzing, defining and relating data.
Experience in responding to external research/statistics questions and complete surveys
Experience with working closely with staff to provide online access to data and managing web based evaluation tools
