The City of Newport News Libraries & Information Services Department is seeking an energetic, team-oriented Library Administrator with a passion for libraries and their communities.  The Senior Librarian is responsible for performing advanced professional work in a variety of areas to include reference, collection development, conservation and preservation of library resources. Answers reference inquiries, assists patrons with research and computer and equipment operation. Performs collection development by reading book reviews, professional journals, evaluates current books and subject matter. Assists with library facility management by supervising library aides and volunteers, trains, supervises, evaluates and establishes goals for staff identifies training needs;  Plans, coordinates, and implements public programs by selecting and organizing materials, managing library collections, This position requires a Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school, and 3-5 years’ experience as a professional librarian with some lead supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Anticipated hiring range is $47,408 - $56,890.
