Description:  Roanoke College’s Fintel Library seeks a qualified candidate for the full-time librarian position of Metadata & Content Services Department Head to share responsibility for improving the quality of Library services and user satisfaction through a proactive, collaborative approach.   Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Metadata & Content Services Department Head will provide oversight for content organization, description and processing of library resources; supervise, train, and evaluate unit staff; and serve as the coordinator for federal depository activities.  Fintel Library shares an integrated library system with Hollins University; the department head will coordinate bibliographic activities with Hollins University staff.  This position serves as liaison to assigned academic departments. Liaison responsibilities include promotion of library services, collaboration with faculty, library staff, and students in the development, management, delivery, assessment, and planning of the library’s digital and print collections for assigned subject areas. The Metadata & Content Services Department Head will share in the provision of instruction, reference and research services to users.  The position will also provide evening reference service and weekend on-call coverage on a rotating basis.

Candidates should be self-driven, analytical and detail-oriented, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be enthusiastic about helping the Roanoke College campus community to meet their resource, instruction and research needs.  

Job requirements:    

  • ALA-accredited MLS, MIS or equivalent advanced degree in library / information science.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metadata schema and bibliographic access and control
  • Demonstrated experience with integrated library system software (e.g. Ex Libris Alma/Primo)
  • Supervisory experience

Preferred qualifications: Experience working in an academic library; teaching experience.
