Call for Lightning Talk Proposals is now open!

Can you hook someone on a topic in 60 seconds or less?  Do you have a great idea or question that you want to share with others outside of a formal presentation?  Now’s your chance to shine!  The VLA Conference Committee is seeking proposals for lightning talk sessions and we want to hear from you.  Complete the proposal form by August 26 to be considered.  Sessions will be selected by online voting and presenters will be announced in September.

Lightning Talk FAQ:

What is a lightning talk?
A lightning talk is a mini-presentation that lets a presenter speak briefly about an idea, question, or other topic.  The format is completely flexible, but can be no longer than 7 minutes in length.

How will lightning talks be selected?
Session titles and descriptions, edited to remove identifying information, will be posted online at VLA.org and VLA members and conference attendees will be encouraged to vote on them.  The sessions with the most votes will be invited to present at the conference.

How does a lightning talk session work?
Within a single session, several presenters will share lightning talks so attendees can be informed on multiple subjects in a fun and fast fashion.  All presentation slides are pre-loaded to make the time between presenters minimal so the session is fast-moving, informational, and most of all fun!

When will the lightning talk sessions be held?
We will have sessions on both Thursday and Friday.  Conference committee members will make every effort to honor presenter availability but cannot guarantee time slots.

Will lightning talk presenters be able to register at a reduced rate?
Yes! One presenter per lightning talk will be eligible to receive the presenter discount.  Full rate information is available on the conference site.
