-Conferences & Programs-

Seminars, conferences, and programs are held throughout the year. They are from one to three days in length and deal with the particular interests of members. Seminars sponsored by VLA activity groups such as sections and forums cover a wide range of subject areas such as documents, library instruction, and information science.

VLA also sponsors an Annual Conference in the fall. It is a yearly tradition begun in 1906 which draws VLA members, vendors, and library professionals from across the state to participate in an intensive three-day program of events. Seminars, workshops, exhibits, formal and informal discussions highlight this Annual Meeting. The program includes general sessions with distinguished speakers and concurrent sessions in VLA's interest areas.

-Virginia Library Jobline-

-Publications-

Every member receives the Virginia Libraries, the Association's quarterly journal containing articles on current issues in the library field, and the VLA Newsletter (published 10 times a year) updating members on VLA people, programs, and current topics of interest.

-Organization-

Members elect officers to conduct the business of the Association. The elected officers form the Executive Committee which, with the Council of elected and appointed members, governs the organization.

VLA is organized geographically into Regions, by type of library into Sections, and by type of activity into Forums. The four sections are College and University, Public, School, and Trustee. Every VLA member selects membership in one Region and one Section.

Members with a common interest may organize a forum to achieve specific goals at any time or for any reason consistent with the Association's purpose and objectives.

There are also several standing committees, including the Administrative Services Committee, Intellectual Freedom Committee, Legislative Committee, Library Development and Cooperative Programs Committee, and ad hoc committees as needed.
