Meet A Member: Laini Bostian

What is your current position?
Youth Services Coordinator

When did you first know that you wanted to be a librarian?
I was working with homeless teens in upstate New York. I was bringing them to our small public library daily to do job searches, and to read and watch movies. They suggested I become a librarian.

What was your first library job?
Youth Services Director at a small library in a town with just 3,000 people living there. Brimfield Library in Illinois.

What is your favorite part of librarianship?
Running programs for grade school age kids and teens.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on the job?
That is a tough call. It seems like the teens are always doing something funny. I recently had an event where I had the teens just wear socks so they would not tear my cheap drop cloth when walking on it. So, they all practiced sliding around the drop cloth in their socks.

If you could have anything in the universe installed in your office for your personal use, what would it be?
A cabinet with map drawers for art props, and more shelving for things like the ice breaker beach ball and the Kinect.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to know about you?
My first college degree is in fine art
