VLA Centennial Display - On the Road
During 2005, the Virginia Library Association commemorated its 100th Anniversary. Now all Virginia libraries have the opportunity to share in the celebration by hosting the VLA traveling exhibit, "Honoring the Past, Building our Future." The exhibit was prepared as a cooperative project between VLA and the Library of Virginia. George Oberle III, the Multi-Media and History Liaison Librarian at George Mason University and a 2002 VLA Scholarship winner, worked with Barbara Batson, Library of Virginia Exhibitions Coordinator, to delve through the VLA archives and choose appropriate materials and write text. Christine Sisic, LVA Graphic Designer, assisted. The display was first mounted at the Library of Virginia and opened April 4, 2005. LVA supervised the preparation of the traveling exhibit which debuted at the VLA Conference in Williamsburg in the VLA Foundation booth.
The display is 79 ½ " high and has a 16" X 100 " foot print. It travels packed in a sturdy wheeled box that is 32" wide X 14" deep X 50" high and weighs 71 pounds. A supply of exhibit brochures is included. If you are interested in reserving, please contact Laura Speer, John M. Porter Library 2001 Parkway Blvd., Stafford, VA 22554, (540) 659-4909, lspeer@crrl.org. Hosting libraries will be responsible for providing delivery of the display to the next library.
