POSITION: Library Director

LOCATION: City of Brentwood, Tennessee

DESCRIPTION: The City of Brentwood (population 36,000) located in the
Nashville Metropolitan area (population 1.4 million) is accepting
applications for the position of Library Director. The Brentwood Library is
recognized as the premier community library in the State of Tennessee with a
state-of-the-art facility and technology, an extensive collection totaling
160,000 items, and a focus on innovative programs and services.

The Brentwood Library operates as an integral department of City government
with the Director reporting to the City Manager. The annual operating budget
is $2.05 million with over 90% of the funding provided by the City. The
Library is opened 66 hours, 7 days a week. There are 12 fulltime and 50
part-time positions. The Director also reports to and works closely with
support groups including the Library Board, the Library Foundation and the
Friends of the Library.

The City is looking for someone with effective leadership and communication
skills and the vision to move the Brentwood Library forward with continuous
improvement so that the Library remains relevant to the intellectual needs
of the community ten years from now. The ideal candidate will have a
successful track record in using the available resources cost effectively,
motivating subordinates to achieve objectives, implementing new technology
and programs, and providing responsive service.

REQUIREMENTS: At a minimum, candidates must have a Master's Degree in
Library or Information Science with at least five years of progressively
responsible service in a library including activity oversight and
development, supervisory experience, fiscal oversight, etc. The starting
annual salary is $65,000 to $81,000 depending on experience.

POSITION: Digital Repository Services Librarian (FA463z)

LOCATION: The George Mason University Libraries -- Fairfax, VA

DESCRIPTION: The George Mason University Libraries seeks a Digital
Repository Services Librarian. This position serves as head of the MARS
(Mason Archival Repository Service) program at Mason. Duties include
managing the service, handling associated technology and related
administrative workflows, and leading audience-building efforts of
University Libraries in support of the service. MARS employs DSpace to
satisfy digital archiving needs as well as more traditional IR services.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of current
metadata schemas, standards, and protocols (such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS,
and OAI-PMH); experience with one or more digital content management
systems; academic library experience working directly with faculty;
experience managing projects and meeting deadlines; an awareness of current
trends in open access and digital archiving and excellent communication
skills. Position reports to the Associate University Librarian, Digital

Trustees, the Executive Director plans and directs all phases of library
operations for Charleston County. There are sixteen (16) locations to serve
Charleston County along with a Bookmobile and a Books by Mail Service. The
CCPL has a $14.5 million budget.

The Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) Board of Trustees is seeking an
Executive Director to bring a high degree of originality and excellent
cognitive skills to the maintenance of superior service programs as well as
to the development of new programs and services, policies and procedures and
to the development and application of new information technologies and
services.

REQUIREMENTS: The successful individual will possess as a minimum a
Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association
accredited university in Library and Information Science. The successful
individual will also possess a minimum of ten (10) or more years of
progressively responsible professional administrative experience and ten

POSITION: Public Service Coordinator

LOCATION: The Washington County Public Library -- Abingdon, VA

DESCRIPTION: Public Service Coordinator: Put your experience and
enthusiasm for providing outstanding customer oriented library service to

County Public Library, in Abingdon Virginia, has an opening for the position
of Public Service Coordinator. Reporting to the library director, the Public
Service Coordinator will join a staff of three other professional librarians

webpage design and restructuring of branch and outreach services. The Public
Service Coordinator will assume a vital role in moving the library to the

This professional, managerial and supervisory position is responsible for

services, programming and community relations. Experience with social

a Head of Technical Services to lead its technical and automation services.
The successful candidate will be a creative leader who thrives on exploring
and implementing new technologies to support the library and the Institute's
missions. This position will lead an initiative to explore and implement a
catalog "discovery layer" and Library 2.0/Web 2.0 initiatives.

Position and Duties: Reporting to the Head Librarian, the successful
candidate will oversee hardware and software specific to the library: web
services; the library's ILS (Innovative Interfaces Millennium); develop and
implement new and innovative technologies and services; plan and implement
upgrades; represent the library's information technology interests within
the Institute. He/She will also be responsible for planning and
implementing library technical policies and procedures; build, train, and
supervise a transitioning Technical Services Department, which includes
cataloging and acquisitions, within the Library team; work with IT and other
technology areas and departments.

REQUIREMENTS: Required Qualifications: Master's degree from an
accredited university or college, preferably in library science, information
science, or computer science; professional experience in implementing
library technologies in an academic setting; have a high level of technical
expertise in technologies related to library systems and web development;
experience designing and maintaining web pages, with advanced knowledge and
understanding of website technologies, including in-depth knowledge of one
or more markup or scripting languages (e.g. Perl, PHP, HTML, ASP,
Javascript, etc.), experience with databases (e.g. MySQL); Linux and Windows
system administration; experience with open-source software; fluency with
current and emerging library technologies; outstanding written and oral
communication skills; outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to
work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team member and
independently; ability to solve problems and manage projects.
Preferred: Progressively more responsible managerial experience in an
academic library; advanced working knowledge of an integrated library
system, preferably Innovative Interfaces Millennium and the ILLiad
interlibrary loan system.

SALARY: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with
qualifications and experience. This is a non-tenure track administrative
professional appointment. VMI has an excellent benefit plan which includes
