DESCRIPTION: George Mason University Libraries invites applications for a Film Studies/Media Services Librarian based in the Johnson Center Library.
Primary academic responsibilities include service to and collaboration with the faculty of the Film and Media Studies Program, librarians and staff, and other media stakeholders at Mason. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other liaison librarians to develop multi-media collections for disciplines across the University and establish goals and priorities for collection development while developing strategies and workflow practices for the delivery of digital media content, establish best practices for the handling and care of media content, assist users with the ethical use of media materials, manage media assets, promote metadata standards and discovery tools to assist user discovery of media collections.

POSITION: Youth Services Librarian

DESCRIPTION: Tazewell County Public Library serves a rural population of 44,000 in the beautiful mountains of southwest Virginia. Within our boundaries is scenic Burke’s Garden, once considered for the setting of Biltmore, with an entrance to the Appalachian Trail. We are home to developing arts and technology interests. The Library delivers services from the main library in Tazewell and branches in Bluefield and Richlands.

This position coordinates an active program of youth services for the system. The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for planning and coordinating systemwide services, developing and presenting programs for children, youth, parents and caregivers, selecting materials, developing and maintaining collections, providing reader's advisory and reference assistance, promoting youth services, supervising four staff. The schedule includes some evenings and weekends.

REQUIREMENTS: MLS degree from ALA-accredited institution, Virginia Professional Librarian's Certificate required. Emphasis on children's literature and services preferred. Enthusiasm for sharing the joy of reading.

SALARY: $30,453 - 43,504, position range. Benefits include health insurance with dental and vision coverage, fully paid VRS retirement, tax deferred compensation option, generous leave allowance, support for continuing education.

DESCRIPTION: Tidewater Community College seeks candidates for a Reference Librarian. Located in Virginia’s historic Hampton Roads, a metropolitan region of 1.6 million residents, TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce development services in the region, enrolling over 38,000 credit students annually. REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Knowledge of academic library research methods. Knowledge of library information resources including electronic, databases, print, and media. Knowledge of the reference interview process. Knowledge of and the ability to effectively use computers and computer software including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Internet tools, and electronic mail. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and conduct bibliographic instruction classes and to assist patrons with information searches using electronic and print resources. Ability to deal with diverse populations to include students, faculty, administrators, and community. Ability to devise research strategies and to prepare subject guides, pathfinders, bibliographies, handbooks, and other materials to support the information needs of faculty and students. Ability to assist other staff in the day-to-day operation and management of a Learning Resources Center. Ability to employ systematic planning and effective time management techniques. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferably experience providing reference assistance with electronic and print resources in an academic library. Teaching skills and experience in with bibliographic instruction, information literacy, or distance education is a preference. Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school is required.
